𝙊𝙉 𝙏𝙃𝙀 𝙍𝙊𝘼𝘿 Amadi struck out Early that morning As he prepared to hit the Road in another day's Journey... As a bus driver, he knew The road could be happy Some days and angry Some days, and knew The danger in travelling When the road was Hungry... The road was both a monster And a good rewarder, Like a clock On a pendulum, your Fate depended on the Mood of the road During a journey... "No dey come late again o, If not I no go work with You again" he lambasted his Conductor for not arriving early And faintly, the young man apologized, "Oga no vex, today go better pass Yesterday, I see am for my dream", He smiled with reassurance, cooling-off The burning anger on Amadi's face, Then he began to call on passengers And when the bus was full, he yelled, "Oga bus don full o, na we get this road, Oya go work!" Amadi quickly took his position at The driver's seat, said his prayers And gulped away the remaining Local gin he bought the previous Day to fight off the cold morning, He switched on the engine; Allowing it to steam, then he Peddled down the clutch, initiated The gear, and zoomed off! He played his favourite highlife tune From Osadebe, but changed it to a Christian one after a female passenger Scolded him for not honouring God that morning... Amadi was on top speed, It wasn't his first time plying That express way as He wished to reach his destination Early; ignoring the Warnings and pleas of passengers Who worried about his attitude That morning... His eyes were beginning to get dull, He could only hear voices faintly, And everything infront of him Seemed to be spinning from the effects Of the alcohol he had taken... In a moment... The shattering sounds of loud gunshots Threw Amadi into confusion as a Passenger yelled "Fulani-Herdsmen o!" Amadi lost control and everyone Knew it was over, even if the Morning was just beginning... The men surrounded him armed with Machetes and guns... Their camouflage coveralls made it Difficult for him to make out their Faces, then it dawned on him that He had met a dangerous fate That morning... His eyes began to clear... He was able to recognize a few Passengers who told him that the Bus ran into a hill, and summersaulted Twice.... Thank God for members of the Local vigilante in the area who came To their rescue... The doctor gave him another Dose of injection to sedate him... Then slowly, Amadi closed his Eyes, looking at the nurse who Stood by him smiling... Amadi thanked God and the road For sparing his life and the lives Of his passengers who sustained little Injuries... The road had taken many of his Fellow drivers, but this was one in many Occasions that Amadi escaped the angry Pangs of the road... He learnt his lessons and swore never To test the patience of the road with Alcohol...
